On Amr Hamzawy’s Withdrawal from the Egyptian Bloc

A few minutes ago I posted a few tweets regarding the withdrawal of Amr Hamzawy from the Egyptian Bloc (#EgyBloc), the “liberal” alliance between some of Egypt’s non-Islamist parties (Hence the quotation marks hugging the word liberal).  When Hamzawy issued his statement regarding the withdrawal, he falsely stated that the reasons for his withdrawal was the presence of “Remnants” (فلول) within some of the parties associated with the Egyptian Bloc.  That was a false statement.

@RamyYaacoub: Here is another piece of on parties withdrawing from electoral alliances, for various reason #EgyElections2011 http://bit.ly/pV0l2t (Arabic)

@RamyYaacoub: When it comes to #EgyBloc, @HamzawyAmr’s exit statement from bloc stated false reasoning behind withdrawal. http://bit.ly/qfLyap (Arabic)

@RamyYaacoub: Amr @HamzawyAmr stated that the reason for leaving #EgyBloc was the presence of “remnants” of former NDP within bloc #EgyElections2011

@RamyYaacoub: The only reason @HamzawyAmr pulled out of #EgyBloc was because he was not allowed to sit on the negotiation table for candidates #Egypt

@RamyYaacoub: The #EgyBloc didn’t allow @HamzawyAmr to negotiate because a decision was taken to not let unestablished parties negotiate for seats #Egypt

@RamyYaacoub: Hence @HamzawyAmr left bloc when he realized that parties in #EgyBloc wont give his the number of slots he wanted on lists #EgyElections2011

@RamyYaacoub: Without activation of “Political Isolation Law”, accusing parties of containing “remnants” of NDP will be the next cool thing to do #EgyBloc

@RamyYaacoub: So what is the definition of “Remnants” (فلول) of NDP? Would love to hear your thoughts #EgyElections2011

@RamyYaacoub: Regardless, @HamzawyAmr, w/ his sensational political flip-floping managed to anger almost all political parties in #Egypt #EgyElections2011

@RamyYaacoub: First @HamzawyAmr made a deal to join #FEP (was not honored), then joined the #SDP, but did not last long there #EgyElections2011 #Egypt

@RamyYaacoub: Then @HamzawyAmr joined the #MB (Democratic) alliance, then #EgyBloc, then was supposed to run on Al-Wafd list #EgyElections2011 #Egypt

@RamyYaacoub: When @HamzawyAmr withdrew from #EgyBloc he said that withdrawal had to come with ” political price”, justifying his “Remnants” statement.

@RamyYaacoub: Sadly, I’m a big fan of @HamzawyAmr, but becoming less of that by the minute. The whole thing is irresponsible from a man of his caliber
